Over the course of 12 days and four countries, we held numerous meetings and discussions that strengthened existing partnerships and opened new opportunities for collaboration. More than a business trip, this was an opportunity to reinforce relationships with our international partners and demonstrate EDI-Staffbuilders International, Inc.’s commitment to workforce development, cross-cultural collaboration, and creating sustainable opportunities for Filipino professionals overseas.
Finland: Building on a Foundation of Trust
We began in Helsinki, where EDI has maintained its presence since 2009. Finland is a country that takes workforce quality seriously, and so do we. That shared standard has been the foundation of our partnerships there for more than 15 years.
Our five days in Finland were fully packed. We met with partners across the industrial, hospitality, and executive search sectors, covering active recruitment programs for skilled tradespeople, including welders, CNC machinists, and lathe operators. Several of these programs involve interview and trade testing activities conducted directly in the Philippines, which speaks to the depth and operational maturity of our working relationships.
One moment during the trip stood out beyond the scheduled meetings. We had lunch at what is believed to be the first Filipino restaurant in Helsinki, established by a chef from EDI’s pioneering deployment batch to Finland in 2009. That restaurant is now a functioning business in one of Europe’s most prosperous cities. It is a quiet but meaningful reminder of what quality overseas employment can produce when done right.
We also met with the founder and CEO of one of Finland’s largest workforce solutions companies. Our discussions with him and his leadership team, including the COO and heads of key divisions, were focused and productive. We aligned on recruitment priorities, reviewed ongoing programs, and discussed how to expand our collaboration across more sectors and regions.
On our final day in Helsinki, we met with the HR director of a group operating approximately 72 high-end restaurants and bars across Finland. The hospitality sector remains a strong area for Filipino talent deployment, and this meeting reinforced the continued demand for skilled, service-oriented professionals from the Philippines.
Austria and Czechia: Expanding into New Ground
From Helsinki, we flew to Vienna. Our meetings in Austria covered two distinct but related areas.
The first was with a company that has been placing Filipino nurses into the German and Austrian healthcare markets for several years. We discussed shared recruitment standards, regulatory compliance, and the growing demand for healthcare professionals in the region. There is clear alignment in our approaches, and we see strong potential for a closer working relationship.
The second was a meeting with Austria’s Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism. The discussion centered on labor market conditions in Austria and the role that structured international recruitment can play in addressing workforce gaps.
In Czechia, we met with the leadership of one of Central Europe’s largest e-commerce companies, a business with billions in annual revenue and thousands of employees across multiple countries in the region. Their workforce needs are significant, and our discussions pointed toward concrete areas where EDI can provide meaningful support.
Slovakia: Technology and Strategic Partnerships
Our final stop brought us to Slovakia, where we met with the co-founders of a Bratislava-based recruitment technology company. Their platform covers applicant tracking, AI-powered candidate sourcing, recruitment CRM, and talent acquisition analytics. We discussed a strategic partnership that would leverage their technology and regional network to support EDI’s recruitment operations across the Czech Republic and Slovakia. It is a forward-looking arrangement that fits well with how recruitment is evolving in this part of Europe.
The trip concluded with a working lunch in Vienna that brought together partners from Finland, Austria, and Slovakia. It was a fitting close — a single table that reflected the breadth of relationships EDI has been building and sustaining across Europe.
What This Trip Represents
EDI-Staffbuilders has been sending Filipino professionals to Europe for decades. This trip was not about introducing ourselves; it was about deepening what already exists and extending it further. The meetings we held, the partnerships we reinforced, and the new relationships we established all point in the same direction: continued, sustainable, and ethical overseas employment for Filipino workers, supported by partners who share our standards.
We will continue to show up, in person, in the markets that matter. That is how trust is built, and that is how EDI operates.
